Week 3!! YAHOO!

I am starting week three and feeling great!  I had a slight set back last weekend, but I am right back at it.  Jim and I attended a 3 day Youth Conference with some really great kids.  We were able to be chaperons for 7 awesome boys from Waycross.  We had a great time, but I wasn't able to eat right or workout 2 days.  I brought my DVD's but they did not play in our computers and there was not a DVD player at the house where we stayed.  I thought I might have a hard time with 3 days off and not eating well.  I was pleasantly surprised when I did the 2nd Fit Test and made some improvements on each exercise.  I also was so happy to see another pound off the scale.  :)  I am down 6 lbs so far!! Yeah! I will never see those numbers on the scale again.  My tummy was upset with me for eating all that processed food again, but we are back on speaking terms now that I have some vegetables in my system.  I actually did 6 real push ups today too.  I have never done a push up in my life.  I am so thrilled that I am doing this.  I hope I can help you to be inspired to be healthy too.

In case you are wondering...this is what I look like after an Insanity workout.

Day 5!! Insane Cardio!

WOW! Day 5 today was called Pure Cardio and it was purely go...go...go.  I was so happy to make it through.  Yesterday was called "Recovery" HA! It was tough yoga.  My legs were so sore this morning I didn't think I could do today.  However, my sweetie said that as soon as I started my legs would quit hurting.  Then he sweetly offered to ride his spinning bike while I did my Insanity.  He was pushing me the whole time and I did get a much better workout.

Here we are all hot and sweaty from working out together!
Here is the back story...You need to know my hubby was a paratrooper in the US ARMY and a green beret medic.  He loved jumping out of planes and running for miles with a ruck sack and full gear on.  He was very physically fit up until he broke his back twice, once jumping out of planes and again falling off a telephone pole.  He has two steel plates and 4 bolts holding his back together.  He had a fusion of his lower spine and is lucky to be walking.  He had to take pain pills for years and has put on weight over the past years as he struggles with daily pain.  We both have made this commitment to lead a healthier life and set a good example for our girls.  So being the man that he is he thought he would give the Insanity the good ole "Jimbo" try.  A few days ago he tried to join in with me on this workout.  He started off strong and made it through the warm ups, but then while we were stretching we both heard a POP and he had to sit down.  That put him in bed for 2 days.  He has a rule that by the third day he gets up regardless.  So he did manage to get it under control enough to spend the day with us, get stuff done and even go on a family date.  So today I was so happy when he was able to ride along side me.  I am so proud of him.  He is a great example to our girls of overcoming the odds against you and never giving up.  He is a great help to me in keeping me going.  He was constantly giving me good feedback and telling me he was impressed and how I was going to be just like the people on the video.  It really helped to have that support system.

I love him and I am glad to be taking this journey together!

Halfway through week one!

Yeah!  I feel good...na, na, na, na, na, na, na! I knew that I would ! (Not really, I have always quit before)

I have done the Insanity workout 5 times now and it is getting better.  I am able to finish which is good.  I am still having to stop for a breather every now and then and I still feel like I want to puke, but I push through. I am very happy with myself.  I hope I can keep this momentum going.

Let me warn your eyes before you scroll down more.  I am posting my before pictures.  So please be kind and don't laugh.  They are modest cause that is just how I am, but they are not pretty!  I have a ton of room for improvement.  I didn't hold anything in or try to hide it.   I will also tell you my weight.  I am not real happy about doing this but I know it will motivate me.  SOOOO....here we go.
This is me Tawnya Scherck before doing the Insanity.  (Actually day 3, oopps)

Now SCREAM along with me!  AAAAA!!! My eyes!!!

I know, it is not good.  I am really putting myself out there.  I am hoping that in 58 days I will be able to post pictures that will not hurt your eyes so much.  I did warn you!

And here are the numbers.
I am 5'7 and 3/4"

I weigh 181.0 - Took a few ounces off for the clothes and the camera.  I was 181 even yesterday morning.

BMI - 28.2 (Yuck! Especially since 30 is considered obese)
So there you have it!  I will see you again in 58 days with the same pictures and hopefully major changes.

Another day's exercise done

Well today I was able to get through another difficult workout and I am happy to say I actually felt some improvement.  I tried the fit test again just to see (and also because I am trying to ease myself into this and officially start the 60 days on Monday).  I was able to do a little better on each of the 8 exercises.  My form was better too.  I am not talking more than 1 or 2 extra reps, but it is something.  :)  I am very proud of myself.

My little cheerleader!

This is Hannah.

She is my coach and cheerleader.  As I was getting my shoes on for my workout today, she took off her princess costume and said, "I have to be your coach."  She even filled up a water bottle for me to keep me hydrated.  She sat next to me the whole 40 mins and cheered me on.  Any time I stopped for a second to catch my breath she would say, "Keep going!" or "You're almost there!" or "You can do it!" She would even get next to me and do a few jumping jacks or other moves she could do.  It was like she knew when I was losing energy and she would pump me up.  It was awesome and just what I needed.  These workouts are just what the name implies "INSANE!"  I did make it through the whole thing.  I took a couple breaks, but I pushed through.  Some of the really fit guys in the video were dropping out and I kept going.  That made me feel good.  I know I will continue to improve as I go along and my speed will pick up, but for now I am so happy that I made it through.  Mostly thanks to this little sweetie so I had to give her a shout out today.

Tomorrow will be shopping day!  I have gone through the book and picked out recipes I think we will like and created a list.  It is long, but when I think of all the money we will save in eating out and eating unhealthy processed food I feel better about it.

Thanks for reading!

The book that saved our lives

Here is the book I mentioned in the previous post. In case you want to run out and grab a copy.

It is "The Blood Sugar Solution" by Dr. Mark Hyman.  He gives great information about what we are doing to our bodies with sugar and processed foods and what we can do to heal our bodies with the right foods.  It is an easy read and will change the way you think about foods.  I am already planning a funeral for sugar.  It and all its tricky cousins will be laid to rest on or before Monday July 9, 2012.  Come back Monday for an update on the funeral. I am sure that we will look back in the near future and be eternally grateful we found this book.  It will be the book that saved our lives.  I hope you will check it out.

PS. The website is www.bloodsugarsolution.com  He also has an infomercial you might catch on PBS and he has great videos on the website.

The Fit Test! WOW!

Okay, so I did the Fit Test from my Insanity CD's and I can tell you three things...
 1.  I am definitely NOT fit!!!
2. I need to do this everyday, I have much room for improvement!
3.  I did make it through without throwing up or giving up so I think I can do it!

So here I am after the Fit test, all sweaty and panting, but smiling cause I did it.

And here are the numbers... :(

Not great at all, but leaves much room for improvement.  I can't wait to see those numbers go up, up, up.  The lady on the CD put me to shame, but in 60 days I will be right there with her.

Just FYI - I do plan to put before pictures up here as well as my weight and measurements.  I don't want to put them up for any reason other than to keep myself accountable.  I know that if I make them public, I will work harder to make them go down.  It is essential to have a community of support as you try to lose weight and make lifestyle changes.  I am hoping to have some readers and followers.  I hope I will get some encouraging comments and that I can help inspire others to do the same.
